The frog that came back!

Sam the frog had been gone for several days.  My son was pretending that his replacement frog was the real frog that had been let loose late late one night after his escape down the hall, down the stairs and through the family room. (go here for post about his adventure)

I was out in the garden checking on my flowers and out of the corner of my eye I saw something moving (normally an ominous sign around here lately...).  Low and behold it was the frog we had let go the other night hopping through the grass.  It was SAM!

I called both boys downstairs and outside to confirm his identity.  My youngest just smiled and went in to catch mode.

To celebrate the return of Sam, we headed down to the pet store and did a major cage upgrade.  I'm a little envious of his new tropical digs, but to have him back in the house is a huge relief.  But the guilt of mistakenly allowing my son's pet to escape and be set free in the backyard is gone.  *Whew*

Note:  No frogs were hurt in the creation of this post.  Sam is a tiny tree frog who we have adopted from the backyard and he is fed crickets and treasured by my son and now has the most plush living area in the house!  He spent a couple of cold nights outside braving the elements, but appears none the worse for the wear...  :)

You go, Sam! A far better outcome than I've ever had in such situations. Whew!

I have a strange infatuation with frogs. Favorite image: My daughter Clare was 15 months old sitting in a bath at my grandma's in Santa Barbara when my hubby came in with a surprise. He opened his hands and inside was a tiny, bright green frog that must've come from the creek behind my grandma's house.

To all of our surprise the little frog leapt from Henry's cupped hands right onto Clare's lilly-white chest. I'll never forget the startled look in her big blue eyes, the image of that bright green contrasted with her baby skin and then her surprising laugh of pleasure.

And that is what your son is going to remember... That you cared enough to spend money on plushier digs for his frogs... What to go mom!
