Party Mix
(The irony of this is not lost on me... so go ahead and laugh, you have my permission!)
Growing up there were a few signs that the holidays had arrived that I have worked to carry on (some with the not so subtle prompting from my husband). One of his favorite carry-overs and mine (until this year) was the making of my Mom's famous party mix. For years it was a homemade gift we gave to family and friends. A gift that was missed by many the years we didn't get to making the extra batches. I think I was practically raised on the homemade Party Mix. And if you ask any of us is tastes VERY different from the commercially bought Chex Mix or the kind you make in the microwave.
Well this year something changed. I don't know if I was just paying more attention or if my body has changed, but it became painfully obvious the other day I am ALLERGIC to the party mix I cherish! I broke out in hives and rashes after snacking on a bunch. (Go read this post if you didn't know I found out recently that I am allergic to Oats... aka Cheerios!)
Have no fear, there is an easy solution because I can just make the party mix without the Cheerios and use other oat-free cereals. :)
By now I'm sure you are dying to know the recipe for the famous mix (just in time for entertaining New Years Eve...). It's very simple to do, takes about an hour, but has a couple subtleties that really make it taste THAT good. Enjoy! :)
- 16 cups of dry cereal (this can be any combination- Rice Chex, Wheat Chex, Corn Chex, Cheerios, Crispix, Goldfish Crackers, you get the idea).
- 1 cup of mixed nuts
- 1 cup of stick pretzels (this can easily be omitted)
- 1 stick of butter
- 1 heaping teaspoon of Lawry's Garlic Salt
- 1 heaping teaspoon Lawry's Seasoned Salt
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire Sauce
*Note that I am going to be changing up the format of this site over the weekend, so I apologize in advance for any temporary quirky things that may occur!

I hate hives!!!! I get them too, from extreme nervousness. Thankfully that doesn't happen too much!
Once I got them from using a new toilet paper and the hives were everywhere, even in my mouth and I had to go to the ER!!!
Awful.
There's nothing like the real thing! My husband grew up with it and I should totally make it - our boys would love it too! Thanks for the recipe,
Julie :)
Thanks for the recipe. This will be a great addition to our party spread!
